Modern English Makers

We have the work of two modern English  makers ; Martin J  Hilsden, viola 1988, and  Steve Gibbons ( Newark School) viola and violin, 1990's and two violins from a retired technician BERNARD GAMMON , 1961 and 1993

The Nelson Violin Makers family Line

We recently have taken on consignment to sell three violins made by James Nelson , violin maker in London in the 1890's and 1920's. James Nelson was particularly interested in making violin varnish which he sold at the time and the thicknessing of plates We have acquired interesting notes from his grandson about his life's work on display in our shop window.

Old English makers , Our collection includes the work of a beautiful small viola by John Wilkinson , London, 1930; Violins form Thomas Grater, Birmingham, 1921 , and Thomas Alexander 1922 and the work of modern makers; Bernard Gammon , Birmingham 1961 and 1993, and a lovely 3/4 violin handmade by our maker and restorer, Francois Bignon, in Birmingham 1993. 

In the workshop , we have an interesting violin made by F W Wadhams in 1893 , If you can help us identify any more information about this late Victorian Violin Maker in Birmingham, or indeed any of the other makers currently with us , we'd like to hear from you.
